How To Create A Lifestyle Blog

Creating a blog is a fun way to share your passions. Your blog can be as simple as you like, or you can opt for customized graphics and a personalized website. From generating content to advertising on your blog, there are some basic steps that you can follow to make the process of starting your own blog simple.

Decide the Theme and Blog Name

The first step to blog creation is to decide the theme of the blog and the blog’s name. Make sure that the name you choose is unique, and focus on a theme that you are passionate about. A lifestyle blog typically focuses on one aspect of your life in order to keep the blog focused. A theme also allows you to control how much, if any, you share about your personal life.

Examples of lifestyle blog themes include fashion, arts and crafts, or how to life a sustainable life. The name of the blog should be easy to spell and connected to either you or the theme of the blog to ensure readers can find the blog easily. After decision the name and theme of the blog, you should choose a platform to host the blog on.

Choose a Platform

Choosing a platform is an important aspect of your blog. If you aren’t familiar with CSS or other coding languages, such as HTML, choose a simple-to-use, ready-made blog platform. For instance, WordPress or Blogger are both popular options for creating blogs. You can host the blog through a web hosting service if you want to customize your domain name. While choosing a platform and a host can initially be confusing, there are some simple differences that can help you make the decision.

One of the main differences between self-hosted blogs, which you pay for, and free hosting services is that a self-hosted blog allows you to choose what you advertise on the blog, and the themes and other features of the blog can be customized if you self-host. Free blog hosting has the advantage of allowing you to begin immediately posting on your blog, even if you don’t have a lot of online experience.

Register Your Domain Name

Your domain name is typically the name of your blog with a .com added to the end of the blog name. By registering your domain name, you have the advantage of eliminating the extension added when you use a free service.

For example, if you name your blog LifeStyleBlog, the domain name is LifeStyleBlog.freebloghost.com if you are using a free service. Purchasing your domain name allows you to eliminate the extension, allowing readers to find your blog easily through search engines or by typing the name of the blog directly into the address bar.

Creating Content

After setting your blog up and taking care of the technical aspects of owning a blog, you are ready to begin posting to the blog. Your first post could include a self portrait and a post about yourself and the intended topic of the blog. Your posts can be as informal or formal as you like, but always keep the reader in mind when creating content. For instance, you could ask yourself if the post is something that would interest readers in your niche.

Focusing your blog on a theme is important to keep your readers interested. The two main types of content are static content, which is always available to readers, and current content, which is updated on a regular basis. Static content includes your contact page and your about me page, while your current content can include any project that you are working on, or anything that you would like to share with your readers. You can write your posts ahead of time, and schedule the blog to auto-post on the date of your choice.

After you have a large volume of posts on your website, you can create pillar posts. Pillar posts group together posts on the same topic, allowing readers to find the exact blog post they are searching for easily. If you plan on advertising on your blog, you can also make an advertisement page that includes your blog’s statistics, such as how many people visit the blog each day or month.

Adding Images and Other Personal Touches

Investing in a blog isn’t necessary, but is quite common among full-time bloggers. Some examples of things that you can purchase to personalize your blog include a personalized banner or icon for your blog, personalized backgrounds and custom site design. These services are typically offered by website designers or other professionals, and allow you to create a blog that appeals to your specific audience.

You can also add images to your blog. A high-quality camera offers the clearest images, but don’t feel compelled to take photos if you aren’t comfortable sharing images of yourself, your family or your friends. You can find a wide variety of images online that are free to use.

If you want to use a copyrighted image, make sure you ask the owner’s permission, and credit the owner for the image when you use it. Props, such as white drop cloth, are useful if you do decide take your own photographs.

With some basic understanding of hosts, domain names and creating content, you are ready to start your own lifestyle blog. Blog creation is often a learning process, so allow yourself a few days to set the blog up and write your first post.
