Should You Work from Home or Rent Office Space?

More and more people are now working from home. The advent of the internet means it’s now possible for companies to comprise of freelancers working in different parts of the country, or even the globe, and the end consumer to be none the wiser. However, working from home might not suit everyone’s needs. Larger businesses, especially, may still be suited to leasing an office space.

Working from Home

Most people only think about the advantages of working from home: you no longer have to commute, you can spend more time with your family, and you no longer have to worry about your boss looking over your shoulder. There are disadvantages, too, though. Not only do you have to make sure that you have all of the necessary equipment and that it’s working, but you also have to get organised.

While you’ll no longer be interrupted from your colleagues in the office, working from home brings its own set of potential distractions. Creating and sticking to a schedule is crucial if you want to stay productive. You should try to treat your day like a regular work-day irrespective of where you’re working from, and start by eliminating any potential distractions around you. This will give you a place to focus on your work and help you more effectively strike the right balance between your personal and professional life.

Renting Office Space

Meanwhile, renting offices is still the go-to choice for most businesses around the world, especially larger companies that need more space. As well accommodating more employees, professional offices can give a huge boost to your reputation. Many business centres are situated in prestigious city addresses. Without the ability to pay in monthly installments, these would be unattainable to many SMB. Not only will this leave a great impression on any visiting customers or clients, but the nature of a shared office space also means you’ll be able to more easily network with other companies.

Fitting an office space with your own furnishings can be extremely expensive. This is why lots of companies instead opt for serviced offices instead. Typically, these feature everything that you’ll need to get started, such as desktop PCs, video conferencing equipment, and a high-speed internet connection. There may also be a daily cleaning service as well as, crucially, on-site maintenance so, unlike those working from home, you won’t be left to your own devices if something does go wrong.

It’s clear to see that different settings are better suited for certain types of companies. Consider the pros and cons of each method before you make your decision about which is best for you, as we all of have unique mentalities when it comes to work.
