Fun Ways to Keep Yourself Entertained When It’s Too Hot Out

As climate change impacts the earth, any countries are having ridiculously hot summers and warmer-than-normal winters. And when you go outside and you’re immediately covered in sweat it can be tempting to just stay inside in the air conditioning. If you’re worried about being bored this spring and summer, here are some fun ways to keep yourself entertained when it’s too hot out:

Love Reading Again

When we were growing up, most of us went through a stage when we couldn’t get enough of books. Maybe it was a favourite series like R.L Stein, The Babysitters Club or Sweet Valley High, or maybe you just read absolutely everything you could get your hands on. But now that we have technology at our fingertips and can download tv series and movies whenever we like, few of us are taking the time to actually read. This summer, make a list of book recommendations from friends and family, or commit to working your way through some of the classics.

Play Online

There are so many great games available to play online or download, and you can also play against other people around the world in real time. Whether you’re a fan of poker or prefer Sim City, you’ll be sure to spend hours wrapped up in an online world with other friends and fans.

Learn a New Language

If you’re one of those people who has wanted to learn a new language for years but have been putting it off, this could be the perfect time. Even if you start slowly with your chosen language and use apps like Duolingo and Mindsnacks to get a good grasp of the basics, you can then move on to hiring a native speaker for Skype lessons and using a textbook. There are simple ways to integrate language learning into your daily schedule by listening to podcasts, watching tv with subtitles, and listening to the top hits in your chosen language.

Get Fit

Many people are under the mistaken belief that you can only really workout outside or at the gym but this couldn’t be more wrong. Along with the many different DVD programs like Jillian Michaels and Insanity, there are YouTube channels with everything from hard-core HIT and Ab workouts to gentle yoga and stretching. If you’re serious about getting fit while avoiding the heat, consider investing in a treadmill or crosstrainer and some free weights to increase your options- if you use them frequently they cost far less than a gym membership and you’ll be able to get fit and toned in the cool and comfort of your own home.

Start a project

Is there something you’ve been meaning to do for years but you haven’t gotten around to it yet? Maybe you love cooking and you’ve been wanting to start that food blog, you think you’re hilarious and want to begin podcasting, or you want to fix up a room in your house. Whatever it is, now’s the time to tackle it.
