New York is one of those cities- you know the ones. The kind of city that is always changing, and yet manages to keep the same appeal year after year. The kind of city that attracts people of all nationalities and ages, and the kind of city where you can return again and again and never get bored.
There truly is no other city quite like New York. A multi-cultural melting pot, you’ll find people from around the world who have settled here and helped influence the city with their food, history and culture. This is also a city where there is always something going on, and unlike many other cities where it seems like everything shuts down at 12pm, New York is full of things to do no matter what time you feel like going out.
If you want to be a tourist, you won’t find many cities that can keep you occupied like New York. From the sprawling Central Park, where you can enjoy a picnic or visit the zoo, to the many shows on Broadway (a must if you haven’t seen shows like Wicked or Chicago), you’ll also find plenty of famous places that simply need to be seen, like the Empire State Building, the Statue of Liberty, or even a ride on the subway.
There’s a reason why so many people love New York for its culture, and you’ll find some of the best museums in the country here, including the Metropolitan, Guggenheim and the Museum of Modern Art.
Foodies can’t get enough of the city that never sleeps, and the city has more restaurants than almost any other city in the world. This means that regardless of the kind of food you feel like, you’ll be able to find it or have it delivered whenever you like.
New York is also surprisingly easy on the budget, with plenty of free activities available- especially in summer. Be sure to check out the River to River festival, the Lincoln Centre Out of Doors, SummerStage, Shakespeare in the Park and plenty of other free activities and festivals throughout the year.
Another reason why the New York is so popular is simply because it’s famous. So many movies have been set here, and of course we can’t forget about Sex and the City (fans of the show can find plenty of tours which take you to the hotspots from the series). This is a city where people travel from around the world to take photos for a reason, and with the huge amount of movies filmed here, there’s sure to be places that you recognise.
If you’re heading to New York, it’s important to check which airport you’re flying into, since some are more central than others, and you may be surprised at the cost and time it takes to take public transport to your accommodation. Consider booking airport transfers instead, so you can walk directly out of the airport, straight into a private car, and quickly reach your accommodation.
