5 Ways to Fix the Bug Problem in Your Office

Whether you run a restaurant or a tax service, finding insects in your place of business is a serious problem. You not only need to worry about the safety of your product and the health of your employees, but also whether a customer or client will come across an insect and be put off from using your services. Use these ideas to help you eradicate bugs in your business.

1. Clean the Breakroom

Chances are you already keep the areas that your clients see as clean as possible, but are your breakrooms as clean? Bugs easily pick up on coffee spills, sugary sweets in the trash, and other items they can snack on. Prevent them from finding their way into the office kitchen by cleaning up spills and taking the trash out at least once per day.

2. Organize Your Storage Spaces

Storage rooms are another place that is more likely to attract bugs. Cockroaches are especially notorious for getting into old boxes and papers and using them as a food source. Clean out your storage rooms. Digitize what you can and use plastic storage totes instead of cardboard boxes for what you can’t.

3. Inspect New Shipments Carefully

It is easy for insects to crawl their way into your shipments and hitch a ride into your building. Search for signs of bugs, such as small, dark specks that could be feces, before bringing your shipments into the building. Unpack slowly to catch any hitchhikers. If you do find any, consider contacting someone about pest control cockroaches before they can multiply.

4. Check Your Building Often

No matter how well you prepare, sometimes insects just find their way into your space. You can prevent it from becoming a larger problem by checking your building regularly. Look in the cushions, under chairs and couches, in drawers and under desks, in bundles of wires, and in cabinets or other storage spaces, especially in bathrooms, kitchens or basements. If you find evidence of an infestation, call a professional service such as Aptive Pest Control Delaware, or one that operates in your current state.

5. Get Everyone Involved

Regardless of how diligent you are, it is easy to miss evidence of bugs if you’re the only one searching for it. Get your employees and co-workers to help when possible. Ask them to let you know if they see any signs of insect activity or if they see any actual insects. If you receive a report, it is best to ask a professional to inspect it.

If you find evidence of an insect problem, it is important to find a professional who handles commercial pest control. Even if you don’t find insects, consider having your business professionally inspected at least once per year. Check out the Terminix website for more information.
