Improving your property’s curb appeal

Choosing a home is an exciting process, but it can also be a stressful one. After all, there is a lot riding on the choice you make. Falling in love with a home is the easy part, but there are also factors such as proximity to extended family, the home’s structure, the neighborhood’s safety, and affordability to consider before you can sign your name on that line. Once you’ve gotten there, however, and your dream house has become more of a reality, there is still one more hurdle to tackle before you exhale that sigh of relief: the sale of your current home.

While the idea of selling your house can be quite daunting, ensuring that it has excellent curb appeal can not only speed the process along, but it can also increase your home’s value. If you need to give your property’s curb appeal a little boost, here are five easy tips that can help.

Dress up the front door

The front door is the focal point of any home. It is the first thing people see, and it can leave a lasting impression in either direction. Make that impression be a great one with a fresh coat of paint and some potted flowers to frame the door.

Give your windows a facelift

Much like the front door, the windows are an essential element to your home’s curb appeal. Adding window boxes and filling them with colorful flowers can transform your home’s appearance, bringing it a new level of charm. New shutters can also transform your home’s appearance. Not only do they make windows look twice their size, but they also add a visual intrigue to potential buyers. Within the walls of the home, shutters also help to better control natural light and reduce outside noise.

Clean up the driveway

Driveways can take a beating. In one afternoon, you can transform this main entryway to your home by taking care of cracks and removing any stains and weeds that may have accumulated over the years. If you think you need to invest a little more of your time here, staining or sealing your driveway is a great option.

Bring color and life to your yard

Break up the “green” in your yard by adding some colorful flowers. If you’re planting, perennials are an excellent investment because they will continue to grow year after year. Don’t forget to take a look at your yard from a home buyer’s perspective. Is it a little unkempt? Spending a little time with the lawn mower or hedge trimmers can help draw in potential buyers.

Add outdoor lighting

Serious buyers don’t just drive by your home during the day; they will also be checking out your house at night. They need to know that this is where they’d like to come home after a long day. Show them that this is the place for them by adding some outdoor ambience to your home. Solar lights along both sides of the driveway and walkway will add warmth, welcome, and comfort.

Improving your home’s curb appeal does not have to be difficult or expensive, and it can help your house stand out from the crowd and attract the best offers.
