Don’t Skimp on These Home Improvements

Home improvements can become home disasters in less time than it takes to disassemble those leaky pipes. Really, how hard could it be? After all, they’re just pipes. If they weren’t meant to be disassembled, it wouldn’t be so easy to do it. Right? Wrong! It is also easy to disassemble that wall socket and light switch. That doesn’t mean you should do it. For the record, you probably shouldn’t. What about all those easy-to-follow instructions on the internet? There are dozens of step-by-step videos with regular folks like yourself rewiring their whole house for only a fraction of the cost of hiring an electrician.

Home improvement nightmares include expensive decorating mistakes you should never make. If you are never going to sell your house, it might not matter how egregious your choices are. But if you are planning on building equity and selling the house at a later time, you have to be a lot more particular about the home improvements you do.

Once you have made certain mistakes, there is no going back. It doesn’t matter if it was you, or a cut-rate contractor that made the error. At a certain point, however, the only way forward is through. And the only way through is with something like one of those installment loans to build credit. The right loan will get you the emergency funds to complete the project and help you build your credit at the same time. The wrong loan might get your project completed, but it will create a new financial disaster that will be much harder to repair. If you are in need of a loan to cover a home improvement project, then you’ll probably want to speak to the team at SoFi about how they could help by providing the right sort of loan. But remember, by doing it right the first time, you can protect both your credit and your equity. These are the projects where corners should never be cut:

Room Additions

It seems the cost to build or renovate a home is up. That means if you are thinking about an already costly room addition, you need to get it right the first time. The price range is all over the map. For a new 15’ X 15’ addition, you can spend anywhere from $20,000 to well over $50,000. It really is like building an entire house. It involves flooring, roofing, plumbing, electrical, and HVAC. Additionally, you will likely have to take out a wall in order to build a new room. No part of that project is cheap or trivial. It is not the kind of thing for which you want to use the lowest bidder. You don’t want the cheapest doctor, airplane pilot, or contractor. Be prepared to pair this big job with a big budget.

External Painting

To some degree, it doesn’t matter how much of a mess you make of your DIY inside painting job. You are the one who has to see it every day. However, the paint job on the outside matters a lot. It is not only you that is affected, but everyone in your neighborhood. If you have the corner lot, the stakes are even higher.

Many people will pass right by without even considering a purchase in the neighborhood if the curb appeal is low. If your house looks shoddy to a casual observer, the property value goes down for everyone. Pink might be your favorite color. But you are going to have to consider more than yourself. And when it comes to the work, you need to hire a professional painter to get it done right. Save money on the inside of the house. Put your best foot forward outside.

Satellite Dish Install

You might be wondering what could possibly go wrong with a satellite dish install. After a strong wind has blown that dish off the roof and into a person’s car, their lawyer will be happy to fill you in on why it was a bad idea. Besides the mounting, there is the matter of drilling a hole and running lots of cables. It is not just a matter of plugging in a box and enjoying your favorite shows. If you have the option to do a self-install or pay $200 for an installer to come out and do it, pay the money and consider it a bargain.

Home additions, external paint jobs, and dish installs are expensive but worth it. Budget is not the only consideration. These are projects that are worth doing right.
