How to Create A Productive Home Office

Do you have the luxury of working from home? It has so many benefits, no commute, comfort and total control of your own hours and work. However, it can be a daily challenge to separate your work life from your home life when you’re working from the living room. Therefore, it’s vital to have your own bright and clean space to create a productive home office.

You don’t need a massive budget to create this, in fact all you really need is a bit of productive planning and creativity.

First of all, put a solid plan into place. Think about what you will need for example paint, a desk and storage. You will then need to contemplate where in your house you can put these items that will allow you the least distractions and enable maximum productivity. Then get to work on putting this plan into action.

Make sure you have plenty of privacy and the room is well lit. There needs to be plenty of natural light and try not to levitate towards the darkest corner of the house. Sometimes natural light may not be enough, so you may need to add some lamps to brighten the place up on dark and dreary days. Paint the walls in a bright, personal and creative colour. Do chose a colour wisely, it needs to be one you like and one that you will enjoy day in, day out.

It is essential to have a good comfortable chair and reliable desk. If you don’t want to spend a fortune or buy everything new, then you can bargain hunt on websites like eBay and Gumtree. This is both kinder to the environment and your pocket. You can use websites like Shiply for finding cheap couriers to deliver large items such as desks.

However, be careful of buying cheap chairs online. Make sure that it is of a high quality and that you will get enough support and be comfortable as well.  Think ergonomically. Items like foot rests, ergonomic mouse instruments and soft keyboard pads that you can rest your wrist on all allow maximum comfort while you’re working.

If you are short on space, then be a bit imaginative with storage space. Instead of using massive heavy filling cabinets why not have a simple book shelf?

Make sure your equipment is up to scratch. If you experience technical faults often then it may be time to update them. The same goes for Wi-Fi.  Slow Wi-Fi will slow down your pace and productivity.  It is a good idea to invest in a separate phone line to your home line to avoid clients getting a busy signal. Don’t forget to insure any and all equipment, just in case the worse should happen.

Add greenery. They will instantly make the place homelier. You can browse websites like Pinterest or design magazines for some visually appealing inspiration.

Always try to keep your office free from clutter and distractions. Remember “A cluttered desk is a cluttered mind”.
