Transforming Your New Home Into The Most Amazing Space

One of the most common problems when moving somewhere new is making the most of your new home. Of course, you’re incredibly excited to be there, but when there’s so much to change it can be a little overwhelming. For this reason, a lot of families make the mistake of going down the safe route and ‘settling’ when it comes to the design and decor of their new homes. They look pretty but are they really as amazing as they could be? More often than not, the answer is no.

When you first looked around the property, your mind was most probably boggling with design idea after idea. Don’t lose sight of what you originally wanted to do with the property. It might take time to transform your home into the most amazing space but with time, effort, and a little inspiration, it is doable.

To help you create a beautiful home without getting overwhelmed, here are a few handy tips. Take these on board and you can transform your new home into the place you’ve always dreamed of living in.

Get inspired

You’ve most probably already got an idea in your head of what you want for each room, but even so, it’s worth taking the time to find inspiration. You never know, you might come across and idea that you’ve never seen before but instantly fall in love with. Start off looking at home design magazines and then move onto using the internet. Sites like Pinterest, Instagram and We Heart It are all good resources to use. Create an album on your computer or phone where you save ideas to that you like. You can then refer to these later on when you start your planning.

Work out your budget

Once you’ve got some ideas of what you’d like to do, the next step is to think about your budget. If your budget is small and you can’t do all the work at once, don’t let it get you down. Eventually, you’ll be able to do up the whole house, so don’t stress. Once you have a number to work with, calculate how much you can afford to spend on each area of the house. It’s important to split the funds as this will make working out what you have to spend on each room easier.

Put a plan in place

The next step is to put a plan in place. Sit down with a notepad and a pen and start working out what area you are going to begin with. Be practical about this and ask yourself which spaces need to be completed first. This should be the places that get most use or are in the worst states. Create a list of everything that needs doing, from the painting to buying new furniture. That way, you’ll have a list to follow and can ensure that you don’t miss anything important. If you’re using contractors for parts of your project, it’s important to take their availability into account when coming up with a plan.

Start with appliances

The first thing you should start with is replacing any old or damaged appliances. The reason it’s best to start with these is because fitting them can be time-consuming, messy and expensive. Appliances like boilers are essential if you want your home to be useable, so getting them fitted first is crucial. Not all the appliances will need to be replaced, but it’s important to replace the ones that do as soon as possible. This is especially true if they’re appliances that heat or cool your home, such as the ones on offer from Academy Air online. If the boiler or air conditioning isn’t working, get it serviced and fixed, or replaced as soon as you can.

Focus on one room at a time

Once you’ve got the appliances out of the way, the next step is to start on each room. It’s best to work on one area at a time, instead of focusing on multiple ones. This is important as if you try to do too much at once, you’ll end up feeling overwhelmed. Start on one room, complete it and then move onto another one. This will make the process much easier and less stressful. The only exception to this rule is if the two rooms are being decorated with the same materials, as doing them at the same time may be easier. Give yourself a set time period for each room and do all you can to stay on schedule.

Get creative

The great thing about remodeling your new home is that you’re able to put your stamp on it. Take inspiration from what you’ve found online but put your own stamp on it. If you want to make your new home somewhere that you love, it’s essential that you find a way to make it your own. This can be using shades that you love or using your personal style to pick out furniture and accessories. However you go about it, it doesn’t matter. What’s important is that you put your own stamp on your new home and make it feel homier.

Don’t underestimate accessories

A lot of us make the mistake of underestimating the power of accessories. Believe it or not, a few well thought out accessories can make a huge difference to the look and feel of any space. As well as choosing accessories for your completed rooms, look for things to brighten up the spaces that aren’t being updated. You may not be able to immediately renovate the entire house, but you can still brighten it up with a few cute accessories. If you’ve got any accessories from your old home, these are ideal for using as they’ll instantly make your new property feel homier.

Moving to a new home is incredibly exciting as well as somewhat daunting. To transform your new property into a space that you love, it will take time and effort, but it’s more than worth it. Just remember not to try and do too much at once, else you’ll get overwhelmed.
