Tips for buying your next family car

It’s time for an upgrade on the car, but with so many family cars on the market it can be hard to choose which one to buy. Use these top tips to make sure you find the right car for you and your family on your next car purchase.

Child friendly features

If you have small children then getting a car with child friendly features is essential. You can find great Ford Family cars that will offer everything you need for the kiddies. Things like UV filtered back windows to protect against sun exposure are great on long trips or even sun blinds in the back. A lot of cars these days also offer back seat DVD screens, which is perfect for keeping the kids entertained. Light coloured seats are never a good idea as you are guaranteed to get all sorts of stains and spills, so look for dark coloured interiors to save on expensive cleaning.

Consider shape and size

The two most common cars is hatchback or saloon. Whilst a saloon may look bigger, their boots aren’t ideal for getting pushchairs in the back. A hatchback offers plenty of boot space, making room for pushchairs and those large grocery loads. A five door car makes life a lot easier if getting car seats in and out of the back. Also look at how wide the doors open for easy access. If you are a family that goes on a lot of camping holidays then perhaps something like 4×4 would be suited better. Also if you are a three-child family, consider getting more then five seats, as if the kids want friends over, then you will need the extra seating.

Air bags

Having air bags in the car is a great safety feature and a must for all cars. However you will want the ability to turn this off in the front passenger seat if travelling with a young infant. Whilst it’s best to travel with infants in the back, if the need arises that they travel in the front, you will want to switch the air bag off for safety reasons

Good storage space

Kids whilst small, need a lot of stuff. This makes it important you have good storage in the car to carry all their bags, drinks, food, toys etc.

Get sliding seats

Having back sliding seats are great, as you can create more legroom, or boot space when needed. It can also bring the kids in closer if you need to keep an extra eye on them.

Hunt Around for Bargains

We all know that certain things on cars can be expensive: replacing tyres, for example, can really add up, especially if you’re due to replace all four. As such, it’s a good idea to find a reputable online tyre specialist, such as National.co.uk to help you save money. Online retailers tend to have lower overheads, and because of this can offer really competitive rates on products you really need.
